‘Kazakhstan β Terra Incognita’ Project
The long-term comprehensive research and media project of the Kazakhstan National Geographic Society, ‘Kazakhstan β Terra Incognita’ (‘Kazakhstan β Unexplored Land’), was established with the fundamental goal of discovering, deeply studying, and widely promoting little-known, hard-to-reach, and unique corners of Kazakhstan’s nature, history, and geology.

Discovering New Horizons
Over the years of the project, dozens of expeditions were organized to the most secluded corners of the country: abandoned canyons of the Ustyurt plateau, ancient underground mosques in Mangystau, relict forests, and mysterious geological formations. The research team recorded the condition of rare ecosystems, gathered field ethnographic materials, and captured high-quality photo and video content of landscapes inaccessible to ordinary tourists.

Enlightenment and Inspiration
The ‘Kazakhstan β Terra Incognita’ project exerted a tremendous impact on the development of domestic and ecological tourism in the country. Based on the gathered materials, KazGeo published a series of unique photo albums, documentary films, and educational articles that opened up the true scale, wealth, and unique aesthetics of Kazakhstani nature to a wide audience.
